Interlock values the privacy and confidentiality of clients, affiliates and stakeholders. We believe that the protection of your personal information is an integral aspect of a successful and professional relationship and we are committed to providing the highest standards of privacy protection. Our practices and policies, summarised here, comply with the National Privacy Principles and the Privacy Act 1988. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner can provide you with more information about your rights under the Privacy Act 1988.
Collection of Personal Information
In some instances, it is necessary for us to collect personal information from you. With this in mind we will make every effort to make sure that you are fully aware of the reason why we need to collect certain personal information from you and will let you know what we will do with the personal information that you entrust to us.
We generally collect and store personal information which is relevant to the provision of service or is necessary for legal or professional reasons. Your information is kept in a file; all files are held in secure, lockable filing cabinets. In some instances, personal information is stored digitally; these too are kept confidential and secure through the use of password protection, internal user restrictions and firewalls. The information kept includes personal information (name, address, contact phone numbers) and information gathered as part of the assessment and treatment of the relevant problems as defined by you.
Interlock is committed to making sure that the personal information that we do collect is accurate, complete and up-to-date. The information is retained in order to document your treatment progress and enables us to provide a relevant and informed service.
In order to keep the information in the file current and accurate, we recommend that you notify us of any changes or errors to your personal information.
Confidentiality
We do not disclose your personal information without your written authority except where: -
the court issues a subpoena; or
failure to disclose information would place you or another person at risk
On an occasional basis, we will conduct quality audits on our documents and these may be conducted by specialist, registered external providers. Again, your confidentiality will be protected.
Access
You have a right to access your personal information, subject to some exemptions allowed by law for your protection. All requests for access to information should be in writing. These requests will be responded to within 10 working days.
