Critical Incident Stress Management

From time to time, organisations may experience a crisis that affects staff.

Interlock has a 24 hour, 365 days a year emergency number for organisations to call if they need specialist crisis incident counselling.

                                                 Australia  1800 172 069

This might be an incident such as:

  • An accident that traumatises the victim and immediate work colleagues
  • Death of an employee
  • A criminal attack such as a hold-up
  • A large scale crisis such as a major fire

What information will you be asked to provide when you call?

  • Details of incident
  • Number of people involved
  • Type of response required
  • Suitable timing and location for response
  • Organisational details
  • Name, position and contact details of person authorised to request CISM on behalf of your organisation

CISM response service may include:

  • Defusing
  • Debriefing
  • Group counselling
  • Individual counselling
  • Family crisis support
  • Organisational support
  • Recognition of stress reactions
  • Stress management education
  • Implimentation of recovery strategies
  • Identification of needs for further assistance

In all these circumstances it helps staff to deal with the situation and helps to minimise the post-traumatic stress if employees’ experience is recognised and counselling is available to them as soon as possible.

It can also help managers to have counselling so they can handle their own responses to the emergency and make appropriate decisions for the well-being of the employees and the organisation.

In this, as in other circumstances, counselling should be offered to staff on an optional basis.

Critical Incident Stress Management Awareness Sessions

Many organisations have an appointed executive team responsible for handling an emergency situation.

Interlock can provide one-hour awareness sessions to help these staff develop contingency plans for dealing with critical incidents.  The session also helps managers understand what happens to people who have experienced a major trauma and what actions are appropriate before and after a debrief.
